CAD Design File Submission
Electronic transfer of CAD design files to CWM is the recommended mode for submission of your component designs for tooling and production cost estimates for die casting or CNC prototyping and production machining.
Paper part prints are accepted, but CAD files will aid significantly in securing faster response and more accurate quotations.
Preferred File Formats and Secure File Transfer
Recommended 3D CAD and 2D Drawing file formats, which can be submitted by online Quotation Request E-Form attachment, are listed here. (These "Preferred Formats" listings are duplicated on the "Quotation RFQ Form Guidelines" page):
3D CAD Design File Submission for Die Casting
For Die Casting quotations, we can evaluate your submitted 3D CAD files in virtually any format. Preferred 3D CAD file formats, which can be submitted by Quotation Request E-Form attachment, are the following:
PREFERRED 3D FILE FORMATS
IGES Surface Files (*.igs; *.iges)
STEP AP203/214 Files (*.step; *.stp)
Solidworks Part Files (*.prt; *.sldprt)
STL Files (*.stl)
2D Drawing File Submission for Die Casting or Machining
For all Die Casting quotations, and for CNC Machining-only quotations, we require a 2D Drawing file. Preferred 2D file formats are shown below, and can be submitted by Quotation Request E-Form attachment:

Solidworks Drawing Files (*.drw; *.slddrw)
(For Machining quotations only, we can also accept PDF file versions of your Drawing files.)
File Size Note: If your combined 3D and 2D file sizes approach 30 MB, please phone the CWM Sales Dept. (Tel: 630- 595-4424) before preparing your RFQ and forwarding files. FTP file transfer is available for larger files and for file security (see below).
Secure FTP File Transfer to CWM
If you require secure FTP 3D CAD and/or 2D Drawing file transfer to CWM, or your combined design files approach 40 MB, set up a CWM secured FTP Site access account:
1. Phone the CWM Sales Dept.
at 630-595-4424 or contact the Sales Dept. by Email requesting an Secure FTP Access account.
2. If you are working with a CWM Project Manager, please phone or Email your CWM Project Manager for the FTP access set up procedure.
3. If you are working with a CWM Sales-Engineer Representative, phone your Representative to set up a
secured FTP access account.
Note that methods other than FTP transfer can be discussed with the CWM Systems Dept. at 630-595-4424.
