Porosity-controlled die castings are producing sound valve bodies for marine power steering, industrial pumps, and commercial air compressors; a manifold valve has seven external thread sets cast in place, replacing six former parts. Superior strength and as-cast surface finish makes die casting the optimum choice for Zn commercial door handles and executive desk staplers. Light weight and high impact strength are combined in housings for hand-held Mg pneumatic staplers and nailers and in Al aircraft food tray arms.
The requirements for a new generation of more powerful portable commercial-industrial power tools can be met by high-tech die cast housings. They offer far superior strength and thermal properties to survive the higher speeds and heat generated by such new units and, in lightweight magnesium, are replacing failed plastic housings.
